the Kandy Project:

Financial Independence for Women

F U T U R E P R O J E C T

Many women in this region of Sri Lanka are eager to contribute to their household income but may not have access to formal training or resources. Through this project, volunteers help by sharing skills that can be turned into small home-based businesses or income-generating activities.

Workshops are typically informal and practical. Volunteers might demonstrate how to create handmade products, share simple business tips, or teach techniques that women can continue using long after the program finishes. The goal is not only to learn new skills, but to build confidence and create opportunities for long-term financial stability. Even simple ideas can have a meaningful impact when they help someone develop a product or service they can sell locally.

Some examples of desired skills include:

  • Sewing and Textile Skills

  • Handmade Crafts and Creative Products

  • Food Production and Small Home Businesses

  • Agriculture and Sustainable Livelihoods

  • Beauty and Personal Care Skills

  • Business and Entrepreneurship Skills

  • Digital Skills for Selling Products
