To understand executive coaching - or any type of coaching for that matter - it’s best to clear out any preconceived notions:

Coaching is not consulting. When working with a consultant, you’ve hired an expert to do the heavy lifting in a particular area using their own subject matter expertise. The consultant has the answers.

Coaching is not mentorship. A good mentor has likely already walked the path you aim to travel in life or in your career. They have the experience and network to guide you.

Coaching is not therapy. Therapy is clinically focused on identifying, treating, and healing problems from the past which impact your present. While coaching acknowledges the past, it is focused on moving forward.

Coaching is not training. Training is the transfer of knowledge, skills, and abilities from the subject matter expert to the student. Coaching will make you think, but you already have the answers.

Coaching is not sorcery. It requires hard work on both the part of the coach and the client!

What is executive coaching?

How is it different from…?

The Inner Game Equation:

Performance = potential - interference

Coaching removes the interference

— Sir John Whitmore, Coaching for Performance

Some coaches come from the corporate world. Some from academia. Chris spent a decade inside the intelligence community — leading the kind of organizational change where getting it wrong isn't an option.

She founded ExecuQuest Coaching for leaders who are navigating high-stakes transformation and need more than a thought partner — they need an advocate, a sounding board, a coach. Someone who will hold them accountable with both rigor and care.

Chris holds a Master's degree in Human Resource Development from McDaniel College, which she earned after learning that elder care — while rewarding — was not an emotionally sustainable long-term career.

Chris is based in central Maryland and works with clients virtually and in person. Outside of work, Chris collects passport stamps and mountain views with equal enthusiasm, volunteers with elderly community members, and rotates through a new craft hobby every few weeks— a pattern her husband has learned to accept with grace. She shares her home with an incredible stepson, two cats, and one very beloved dog. She is working on convincing her parents to lease her some land for goats. It’s not going well.
